Avery Johnson

Avery has been coaching in various capacities for the past 18 years to benefit youth and adult competitive athletic clubs, military organizations, corporate executive teams, and small business proprietors. A passionate teambuilder with extensive experience developing high-performing organizations across a breadth of disciplines, Avery actively seeks opportunities to build leaders, strengthen culture, refine policy, share knowledge, and streamline processes. Avery’s instruction and curriculum development efforts have focused on cultural transformation through individual and collective development of technical skills, teamwork, and applied leadership. He has designed, implemented, and managed training programs that have been endorsed and approved by government and regulatory organizations. Avery finds fulfillment in empowering cohesive, agile, and efficient teams to operate fluidly in dynamic environments.

Avery’s professional leadership experience spans 14 years in the aviation industry guiding successful organizations, effectively managing complex operations, and directing teams of aviators in diverse flight missions. He has supervised Supply Chain Management, Quality and Compliance, Safety, Planning, and Training departments as well as manufacturing, modification, maintenance, and flight operations.

Avery received an education in Classics and Mythology from a private college and spent almost nine years in the military as a warrior, helicopter pilot, leader of soldiers, and commander of organizations. He holds a Project Management Professional certification and a Six Sigma certification. Avery has pursued further education in Organizational Psychology and is a lifelong student of leadership and group behavior.

Avery resides in Portsmouth, VA with his wife and family and enjoys playing and coaching competitive and recreational team sports, creating and listening to music, training in Jujitsu, and outdoor adventure.
